Illinois man arrested after police find stolen vehicles, drugs and fake paperwork on his property: officials

KANE COUNTY, Ill. - An Illinois man was arrested earlier this month after police found stolen vehicles, drugs and fake vehicle paperwork on his property, according to Kane County officials.
What We Know
Eric C. Karwowski, 42, of St. Charles Township, Illinois, has been charged with numerous felonies following an investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and related agencies.
Authorities executed a search warrant on Jan. 3, at Karwowski’s residence on the 43W000 block of Badger Court.
The charges against Karwowski include:
- Aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle (4 counts)
- Possession of a stolen motor vehicle (3 counts)
- Theft (4 counts)
- Possession of a firearm by a felon (4 counts)
- Possession of a firearm- FOID ineligible (4 counts)
- Possession of ammunition by a felon (4 counts)
- Unlawful possession of controlled substances (2 counts)
- Possession of burglary tools
A preliminary investigation shows that on Dec. 28, 2024, around 11:39 a.m., the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 43W000 block of Badger Court in St. Charles Township.
Deputies were assisting the Southlake Police Department (Texas) in locating a reported stolen vehicle. Using the vehicle owner’s GPS, authorities tracked the stolen black Mercedes Benz G550 to the driveway of the residence on Badger Court, where deputies found it parked.
On Jan. 3, investigators executed a search warrant at the home.
During the search, authorities allegedly uncovered three long rifles, one pistol, a VIN press, VIN stickers, VIN rivets, a laser engraver, a cell phone jammer, several computers and cell phones, fictitious vehicle documents and financial records.
While the search was underway, Karwowski arrived at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office to speak with detectives.
A separate search warrant was obtained for his vehicle, which yielded cash in various denominations, 12.49 grams of cocaine, 0.99 grams of heroin, a stolen BMW key, a Lexus key, burglary tools and an electronic license plate cover.
Karwowski was arrested and remains detained in the Kane County Jail.
What’s Next
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, in coordination with the Illinois Secretary of State and other task forces, continues to investigate. Additional charges may be brought as authorities review evidence, including vehicle registration documents and financial records.
Karwowski's next court hearing is set for Feb. 21, at the Kane County Judicial Center.
