Vehicles, homes damaged in 3 Joliet shootings over 90 minutes
JOLIET, Ill. - Three shootings occurred within 90 minutes Monday night in Joliet, police said.
The first incident was reported around 9:30 p.m., when officers responded to a residence in the 21000 block of Prestwick Drive in Crest Hill. Police learned that about 30 minutes earlier, a Hyundai Sonata was struck by gunfire while traveling eastbound on Fourth Avenue at Bennett Avenue in Joliet.
The car, driven by a 23-year-old man with a 23-year-old woman as a passenger, had its back window shattered. Both occupants were unharmed, and the driver later drove to the Crest Hill residence to report the incident.
At 10:37 p.m., officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of Second Avenue for reports of shots fired. Police found nearly 10 spent shell casings in the alley behind the home. Initially, no injuries or damage were reported. However, about an hour later, the resident called back to report gunfire had struck an unoccupied Nissan Altima and the rear of the residence.
The home was occupied at the time, but no one was injured.
Minutes later, at 10:55 p.m., officers responded to Fourth Avenue and Bennett Avenue for a delayed report of gunfire.
Police found an unoccupied Chevrolet Suburban parked on the street that had been struck multiple times. Officers also located more than 10 spent shell casings in the street during a canvass of the area. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots earlier in the evening.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents. Police said they are investigating a possible motive and whether the shootings are connected.
