Kirk, Duckworth agree to 2 Chicago TV debates
CHICAGO (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk and Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth have agreed to three televised debates, including two in Chicago.
The U.S. Senate candidates faced off Monday in a livestreamed meeting before the Chicago Tribune editorial board.
Duckworth said in August she would do five debates, including one televised from Springfield plus debates on Chicago's WTTW and WLS-TV. But Kirk's campaign didn't agree to those Chicago debates. That left open the highly unusual possibility there would be no televised meetings in the Chicago area.
Duckworth challenged Kirk Monday to join her for the WLS-TV event, noting the station has the area's largest viewership. Kirk agreed.
Duckworth also says her campaign agreed to participate in the WGN event.
The dates haven't been confirmed.
