Mall of Louisiana shooting: 1 arrested, 1 wanted after teen caught in crossfire dies

One teen has been arrested and another suspect is wanted in connection to a mass shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge Thursday that killed a 17-year-old bystander and wounded five other people. 

Authorities announced the arrest at a news briefing Friday. Here’s the latest:

What we know:

Markell Lee, 17, turned himself in Friday morning after an arrest warrant was issued, Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse said. Lee’s being held on one count of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

What we don't know:

Police released a photo of a second suspect wanted in connection with the shooting, but he has not been identified. 

High school senior killed in crossfire

The backstory:

Gunfire broke out near the mall’s food court Thursday afternoon when two groups got into an argument and began shooting at each other. Six people were shot, including innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

Authorities said the victim who died is 17-year-old Martha Odom, a high school senior from Lafayette, Louisiana, "with her whole life in front of her," Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said. According to Nola.com, Odom was at the mall with her friends for an unofficial senior skip day. Two of Odom’s friends were also shot. 

A 43-year-old man who was injured remained in critical condition Friday, Morse said, and another victim is a "young man" in a wheelchair who suffered "some extremely serious" injuries.
