Police: Man called Glenwood cops to say he killed wife, son

Police say a man in Glenwood killed his wife and son before hurting himself Thursday afternoon.

"We received a call this afternoon around 3:30 p.m. from a man who stated he had killed his son and his wife,” said Glenwood Police Chief Demetrious Cook. “He didn’t give a reason.”

Officers responded to the home on the corner of 194th and Minerva Avenue. First they discovered the man who had called 911. He was unconscious and bleeding with multiple cut wounds on his arms. 

“We found him injured inside the garage with what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds,” Cook said.

Cook says they searched the home and found two bodies upstairs. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified them as 33-year-old Irven S. Williams and 68-year-old Delphenia Williams.

Autopsies Friday found both died of blunt force injuries to their heads in an assault, the medical examiner’s office said. Their deaths were ruled homicides.

Beverly Fryson lives across the street and saw the massive police response.

“They went in the back and looked like they had their guns out so they were looking for someone, next thing I know the police, ambulance came from everywhere,” Fryson said.

She describes the family across the street as quiet and kept to themselves.

“I feel sorry for the family, I do, I feel sorry for the family and those involved,” Fryson said.

The chief says they have been called to the home in the past - some of those calls were domestic in nature.

This comes as a shock to his quiet suburban neighborhood. 

“It's rare out here, this is the first homicide that I’ve had since I’ve been in this town, I’ve been the chief for almost 7 years,” Cook said.

The suspect was taken to St. James Health in Chicago Heights and was expected to survive, Cook said. Charges against him were pending.

The chief says there is another adult son who was out of town. He spoke with him on the phone - that son doing as best he can given the circumstances.
