Police: Man tries to destroy drugs when cops show up at Round Lake home
CHICAGO (STMW) - A north suburban man was arrested after he started destroying drug evidence when detectives showed up to search his home last week, according to police.
The Lake County Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at the home of 42-year-old William J. Cochran in the 24500 block of West Norelius Avenue in unincorporated Round Lake on Dec. 10, the Lake County sheriff’s office said in a statement.
As detectives entered the home, Cochran “began destroying drug evidence,” police said.
The search turned up cocaine, alprazolam and marijuana, the sheriff’s office said. The packaging and quantity of drugs were “consistent with the sale of narcotics.”
This was the second time in six months Cochran’s home was searched by the Gang Task Force, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities said he is a documented street gang member.
Cochran was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana and obstructing justice, all felonies, the sheriff’s office said. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing a police officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $200,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 6.
