Magnitude 4.6 earthquake rattles central California on April 2, 2026
Residents across parts of central California were shaken by a 4.6 earthquake in the early Thursday morning hours.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred around 1:41am Pacific Time, with the epicenter less than a mile outside of Boulder Creek, California, which is about 27 miles southwest of San Jose.

Over 25,000 reports of shaking came into the USGS. Weak to moderate shakes were felt as far north as Sacramento, including cities like San Francisco and San Jose, and as far south as King City, along with some reports in Fresno.

There have been no reports of damage caused by this earthquake, and no tsunami warning is in effect. The USGS says there is a 56% chance of feeling a magnitude 3 or higher aftershock within the next week.
