Chicago music venue security guard caught shoving guest fired

A security guard at a Chicago music venue was fired after he was recorded shoving a person on the same night two people were hurt when a wood ledger fell on them during a concert.

Radius Chicago released a statement on its Facebook page Saturday after the injuries forced the concert to stop and the incident with the security guard garnered attention on social media.

‘Unacceptable’ behavior

What we know:

Video circulating on social media appeared to show a security guard shoving an individual in the back through a doorway, causing him to fall to the ground.

The security guard also appeared to kick the individual’s legs while he was on the ground.

Radius Chicago said the staff member was fired after that incident.

"That security member’s behavior was obviously unacceptable and does not reflect the standards we have set at Radius," the venue said in its statement.

Radius Chicago added it was reviewing its security protocol and training for its team.

Injuries from falling wood

The backstory:

During a performance by the band Levity, a non-structural wood ledger that was attached to a steel frame fell and hit attendees, according to Radius Chicago.

Chicago police said two people, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were hurt and taken to Stroger Hospital with minor injuries.

"We are heartbroken and our thoughts are with them as we wish them a speedy recovery," Radius Chicago said in its statement.

The venue said it’s been in contact with city officials about the issue. A structural engineer determined there were "no additional safety concerns at this time," Radius Chicago added.

"The safety and well-being of our guests is always our top priority, and as such we are implementing additional recommended precautionary measures for tonight’s event."

What they're saying:

Radius Chicago said, "We recognize that last night’s events did not reflect the experience we strive to provide, and we take full accountability for making things right. We will continue to take immediate action to ensure the safety of all our guests."
