Blagojevich, a Democrat, served eight years in prison for corruption before President Donald Trump commuted his sentence in 2020.
This week, Blagojevich posted on X about meeting Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
"Great meeting in Serbia with President Vučić. He's leading an economic miracle where wages increased 270%. The same people who hate Trump hate him. Proud to have met the president of the country my father came from," his post reads.
What's next:
It remains unclear how the Senate would receive a Blagojevich nomination, Politico reports.
The White House and Blagojevich have not responded to requests for comment.
