RUSHVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in western Illinois say a human torso was found in the Illinois River.

Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Redshaw tells WGEM-TV a commercial fisherman found the torso and called police about 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The torso was where the river and Sugar Creek meet south of the small village of Browning. The sheriff says a rescue team and the county coroner pulled the torso from the water.

An autopsy is planned Monday in Bloomington.

Schuyler County Coroner Terry Millslagle says the torso appears to be a man's remains and it looks as if limbs were removed.

The coroner says the remains look like they had been in the river at least a week to ten days. The sheriff says the FBI and state officials were involved in the investigation.
