Snow and ice expected Wednesday morning

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Snow and ice will arrive overnight in Chicago and likely make for a messy Wednesday morning commute, the National Weather Service is warning.
An inch or two of snow could and up to one-tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate in the Chicago area, the weather service said. The snow is expected to start about midnight in the city before transitioning into a mix of snow and freezing rain after 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Icing will be possible across the region, but areas south of I-88 see the greatest risk, according to the weather service. A winter weather advisory will be in effect for all of northern Illinois from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Travelers Wednesday morning should plan for slippery roads and limited visibility, the weather service said.
While the risk of icing will decrease in the early afternoon, a light drizzle could continue throughout the rest of the day, the weather service said. Temperatures will reach the mid-30s, and gusts of 30 mph are expected near Lake Michigan.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that overnight lane closures that were expected to begin Tuesday night for work on the Monroe Street Bridge over the Eisenhower and Kennedy expressways have been postponed because of the inclement weather.
