Teen girl stabs another teen in Joliet after social media dispute
JOLIET, Ill. - A dispute on social media led to a 16-year-old girl stabbing and seriously injuring another teen girl in southwest suburban Joliet on Monday.
Joliet police responded to the 2100 block of Newport Drive around 2:45 p.m. on Monday about a 15-year-old girl from Bolingbrook who had been stabbed by another girl, police said. The victim had been stabbed in the torso area.
The victim and witnesses to the stabbing identified the 16-year-old suspect. Police said the victim and the alleged stabber know each other.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where she had to undergo surgery to repair the stab wound.
Officers contacted the 16-year-old suspect’s parents although they did not know where the teen was.
At 6:30 p.m., the teen suspect and her parents went to Joliet police where officers interviewed and booked her. She was taken to the River Valley Justice Center in Joliet without incident.
The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a public way, and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm or permanent disability or disfigurement.
