Trump Administration to begin immigration raids in Chicago next week, WSJ reports

The incoming Trump administration will begin large-scale immigration raids next week, starting in Chicago, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Up to 200 immigration officers are expected to arrive on Tuesday morning, with the raids potentially lasting all week, the WSJ reports.

Immigration Raids

What we know:

President-elect Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated on Monday. The Chicago raid is expected the following day, according to the Journal.

Trump has pledged to pursue mass deportations once in office.

The WSJ also reports that raids could occur in New York, Miami, Denver, and Los Angeles.

Border Czar's Visit to Chicago:

Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, visited Chicago last month and spoke at a Northwest Side GOP holiday party.

He said his deportation plan includes verifying the status of asylum seekers and arresting those harboring migrants sought by authorities.

Homan criticized Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson, urging them to negotiate a mass deportation plan.

"Chicago is in trouble because your mayor sucks and your governor sucks," Homan said.

He also warned he would prosecute Johnson if he interferes with ICE's efforts to deport undocumented immigrants.
