Forte hears the whispers and McPhee finally speaks
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - It was an interesting day at Halas Hall, as the Bears continue preparations for the Broncos. Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffrey sat out of practice, although John Fox said that was mostly to keep them off the turf. The Bears practiced inside, due to high winds.
Forte admits he does hear the whispers around Chicago that fans are ready to move on with Jeremy Langford.
"Chicago's kinda like that, he said. "You know 'see you later Matt', and I'm like, 'man I've been here 8 years and you're just going to throw me off to the side like that'. But that's the nature of the NFL. I will play where ever I end up."
And right now, that's still here in Chicago, where Forte believes the success of Langford will actually help him on the field.
"I actually like it, because now going forward I won't have to play every play," Forte said. He believes by keeping both backs fresh, they will have more success.
I talked with Langford one on one today, who says Forte was one of his football idols growing up. The two trained together in the offseason, and Langford says he's leaned on Forte for advice during the last two weeks.
Forte told FOX 32 that his best advice for Langford was to concentrate on his blocking. He said, if you can't block well in the NFL, you can't stay on the field. Langford echoed those comments, and said he's taken it to heart.
On defense, Pernell McPhee was once again not able to practice. However, we did catch up with him in the locker room. He believes he's improving, but he'll leave his official status up to the trainers and won't speculate about his status for Sunday's game. He says he originally tweaked his knee playing on indoor turf.
