GETTY Mike McCarthy former coach of the Green Bay Packers

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Fox 32 News) - The Green Bay Packers fired coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday.

The team has just lost to the Arizona Cardinals, 20-17. That leaves the team 4-7-1 this season.

In a statement, Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy said:

"The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately."

Joe Philbin will be the interim head coach.
