White Sox Garrett Crochet named AL Pitcher of the Month in June

The White Sox were hoping Garrett Crochet could be their ace. On Wednesday, they got confirmation that he'll be exactly that for Chicago.

Crochet was named the AL Pitcher of the Month in June by the league Wednesday morning.

The 25-year-old went 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA in his six starts in June. He struckout 56 and walked just six batters in those six starts.

Crochet is the first White Sox pitcher to earn the honor since Dylan Cease in July 2022. Crochet has certainly earned his stripes this season after recovering from Tommy John Surgery.

Saying Crochet has burst onto the scene would be an understatement, too. He leads the major leagues in strikeouts, strikeout percentage (.353) and strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

Furthermore, Crochet is the only MLB pitcher since 1901 to record 140 or more strikeouts while walking 20 or fewer batters over his first 18 career starts.

According to the White Sox, Crochet's 141 strikeouts are the fourth-highest total in White Sox history before the All-Star Break. His 12.52 strikeouts per nine innings pitched would break the franchise single-season mark of 12.28 Cease set in 2021.

Since this blistering start, Crochet has been the subject of trade rumors as the MLB trade deadline approaches. The return for Crochet would need to mirror that of what the Sox got for Cease, however it would further sink a dismal season in moving off from the best pitcher.
