1 killed, 2 injured in Kane County crash
(SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A man was killed and his sister injured when an SUV flipped over early Saturday in the far northwestern suburbs.
Just after 2 a.m., the SUV was going east on Illinois Route 64 when the driver lost control along a curve at Fabris Road in unincorporated Virgil Township, went off the south side of the road and started rolling, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office. The crash site is about 20 miles southwest of Elgin.
The 39-year-old Maple Park man at the wheel was ejected from the vehicle, as was front seat passenger David Drewes, a 35-year-old from St. Charles who died at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt, sheriff’s police said.
The driver was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb before being flown by helicopter to a Rockford hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Drewes’ 36-year-old sister, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Kishwaukee with minor injuries. She and the driver had recently married, police said.
No citations had been issued as of Saturday evening. “[Deputies] have not ruled out that alcohol played a role in this crash,” police said.
The road was closed for about three hours as crews cleared the scene.
