3 family members killed in horrific crash in Des Plaines
FOX 32 NEWS - Disturbing details have emerged about the young driver whose speeding, police say, lead to a horrific crash.
Three members of a family were killed when 21-year-old Piotr Rog slammed into their car Thursday night. It happened on Northwest Highway in Des Plaines.
The Crawford family was on their way to a soccer match when Rog's car pushed them into another car. The community is simply devastated.
A mother, father and eldest daughter are gone. Many describe them as people of strong faith and commitment to their communities.
Pastor Jeff Gavin married Anita and Kevin Crawford, and he knows the rest of the family well.
The Crawford’s, along with their eldest daughter, 20-year-old Kirsten, were turning into the YMCA on Northwest Highway for a soccer match. Des Plaines police say Rog was speeding westbound.
Witnesses say he was traveling at an estimated 100-miles-per-hour and collided head on with the Crawford’s, killing all three.
Rog was also killed, and his passenger is said to be in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
According to the Illinois Secretary of State, Rog had his license suspended three times in three years, although officials say he was driving on a valid license the night of the crash.
The two younger siblings are now left without their parents and oldest sister, but their pastor says their loved ones will never be forgotten.
"Perhaps many people can recognize the unfortunate aspect that anything could happen to any of us at any time,” Gavin said.
The family's pastor says services for the three are expected on Tuesday.
The congregation is surrounding the remainder of this family with so much love and support, something dearly needed in this time of tragedy.
