Amazon warns old Kindle e-readers will be disconnected from Internet unless update installed

If you have an old Kindle e-reader that dates back to 2012 or before, Amazon is urging you to install a critical software update by Tuesday.

Amazon says if your device is not updated by March 22, it will be locked out from connecting to the Internet and you will receive the following message on your device:

Because of this, users will be unable to download Kindle books from the Cloud, access the Kindle store and use other services on the device.

Here are the following Kindle e-reader devices that will require the software update:

- Kindle1st Generation (2007)
- Kindle 2nd Generation (2009)
- Kindle DX 2nd Generation (2009)
- Kindle Keyboard 3rd Generation (2010)
- Kindle 4th Generation (2011)
- Kindle Touch 4th Generation (2011)
- Kindle 5th Generation (2012)
- Kindle Paperwhite 5th Generation (2012)

Those who do not update their device by Tuesday will have to manually install the latest update to their device.
