Chicago protest against cop-involved shooting blocks traffic
CHICAGO (AP) — A small group of protesters is blocking a major roadway near Chicago's financial district to protest police brutality and street violence.
Such protests have been held almost daily since the city released graphic squad car video showing a white police officer fatally shooting a black teenager 16 times. Officer Jason Van Dyke has been charged with murder in the 2014 death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
On Tuesday evening, 16 protesters laid in the street with lights to representing the number of times McDonald was shot. Police redirected traffic in the area which is near an interstate.
The demonstration was organized by the Chicago Light Brigade. Organizers with the network of activists say the demonstration follows an annual artistic vigil for those who fall to Chicago violence.
