Man charged with fatally shooting roommate in Chicago

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man allegedly shot his roommate to death because he was making “loud noises” in their apartment in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
Anthony Burns was denied bail for 52-year-old Robert Gardner’s murder when he appeared for a hearing Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
Burns, 58, woke up Sunday morning and told Gardner to stop “making loud noises and saying random things,” according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
Burns said Gardner pulled out a knife from under his pillow, so Burns went back to his bedroom and retrieved a revolver from under his bed, prosecutors said. He returned to Gardner and allegedly shot him in the abdomen.
He dragged Gardner’s body to a hallway and pushed it down a flight of stairs and left it in the backyard, prosecutors said.
A neighbor found Gardner’s body and called police, prosecutors said. A trail of blood allegedly went back to Burns’ apartment.
Burns’ next court date is scheduled for April 29.
