The father of 3-year-old Devon Quinn, described the "Father's Day" horror of watching his son take a bullet in the shoulder, while sitting next to him in the family minivan.

"After the shooting, I just heard my baby say 'ah,' and I just looked over and I saw blood," Desmond Bell, the 3-year-old's father, said.

Prosecutors said Friday that the youngster will be paralyzed from the shoulders down and never able to breathe on his own again.

"The first thing he said to me was 'Daddy, pick me up,' and I wasn't able to do nothing about it because I can't touch him," Desmond Bell said.

Devon's parents joined Father Michael Pfleger at the scene of the shooting today,  passing out flyers pleading for more witnesses to come forward. They also emphasized that the shooter was not targeting the boy's father.

"My son was not the intended target, my son was at the wrong place at the wrong time," Erica Dukes, the boy's grandmother, said.

Prosecutors have charged 23-year-old Desean Wynn with attempted murder. They say he was recognized by the victim's father at the scene and on Facebook.

In bond court this afternoon, Wynn listened without comment as prosecutors described him as a gang member nicknamed "Little D" who opened fire that day to commemorate the death of a another gang member.

Wynn allegedly sprayed 10 shots toward three parked cars with a .40-caliber handgun. Wynn was on parole at the time due to convictions on robbery and gun charges.

"Any shooting is unacceptable, but when it is a 3-year-old child that is the victim, it is a new low level for us in Chicago,"  Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina's Church said.
