A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in south suburban Sauk Village Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The crash occurred about 2:20 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Illinois Route 394 just north of Sauk Trail, according to Illinois State Police.

A 28-year-old woman from Chicago was driving a Toyota was dead at the scene, police said. The driver of a semi truck, a 68-year-old man, declined medical attention.

According to preliminary information from police, the woman was driving in the far left lane and tried to make “a sudden” switch into the far right lane. She clipped the front of the semi that was already in the far right lane, causing the vehicle she was driving to spin out of control.

Both vehicles veered off the road and into a grassy field, police said. The Toyota eventually slammed into a tree and was hit again by the semi truck.

The truck also crashed into an abandoned house, police said.

All lanes of northbound Illinois Route 394 were closed as of 6 p.m., police said.
