Report: Bones found in Round Lake shed may be from a child
CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Bones found in an abandoned shed over the weekend in north suburban Round Lake appear to be human, and could have came from a child, authorities said.
About 2:45 p.m., a property caretaker found what appeared to be a human skull while removing items from an abandoned shed in the 33100 block of North Fairfield Road in unincorporated Round Lake, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.
The Lake County coroner’s office responded and collected the possible remains. After examination, it appears the bones came from a child between 7 and 9 years old, the sheriff’s office said.
The remains, which are possibly 50-to-100 years old, will be examined by a forensic pathologist, forensic odontologist and anthropologist to determine if they are human. The further examination could take months, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office is investigating how the items came to be in the abandoned shed.
