Trio beat up, robbed CTA rider who asked them to stop smoking: police

Three suspects wanted for violently robbing a CTA rider on Jan. 2 near the 69th Street station | Chicago police.

Chicago police are searching for three suspects who violently robbed a CTA rider who asked them to stop smoking on a train car earlier this month on the South Side.

The backstory:

The victim allegedly asked them to stop smoking on a Red Line train car around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 2 near the 69th Street station, according to a CPD community alert.

The three suspects then started punching the victim's face and body before stealing his bag, containing his wallet, IDs and debit cards. The suspects continued attacking him on the station platform before fleeing to the street, police said.

One of the suspects was wearing a black coat with a green vest, the other wore a dark blue coat with a brown shirt and the third was dressed in a blue coat with greenish headphones.
