State's attorney takes leave of absence after DUI arrest

DIXON, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois state's attorney says she's seeking counseling and taking a temporary leave of absence after being charged with driving under the influence.

Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller made a statement Wednesday, in which she also said she does not intend to seek re-election in 2016.

The 48-year-old Sacco-Miller of Dixon repeated an apology she made Monday, a day after she drove her van into parked car and then failed a test for blood-alcohol level.

She says she "deeply" regrets her "lapse in judgment." She says she was on her way home after spending a night with friends and thought she could drive home safely. She says she had fallen asleep at the wheel when she hit a parked car. She says she's grateful no one was hurt.
