Suburban village clerk dies at 87

LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. - Lincolnwood is mourning the loss of longtime Village Clerk Beryl Herman, who died this week at age 87.
The backstory:
Herman served as Village Clerk for 20 years, where she kept meeting records, helped residents with questions and registered voters.
Before stepping into local government, she spent 28 years with Lincolnwood School District 74, working in various roles, including as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher.

Mayor Jesal Patel released the following statement about Herman's death.
"Today, we mourn the passing of our beloved Village Clerk, who devoted her life to serving our community with unwavering dedication and passion. Beryl’s contributions over the years have left an indelible mark on our Village, and her commitment to excellence in public service has set a standard for all of us. We will carry Beryl’s legacy forward as we continue to build a stronger, more vibrant community in her honor. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time."

A funeral service is set for Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home in Wilmette, with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie.
