West Nile Virus found in Glenview mosquitos

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Mosquitos collected in north suburban Glenview have tested positive for West Nile Virus, the first positive case found in the Chicago area in 2016.
The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District collected the positive batch of insects on May 25, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Last week, the state’s first positive case of West Nile Virus was reported in downstate Douglas County. The infection was found in a blue jay, according to the department.
“Similar to previous years, we’re starting to see mosquito batches and birds across Illinois test positive for West Nile virus,” department Director Nirav D. Shah said in the statement. “As temperatures increase, we’ll start seeing more mosquitoes so it’s important to take precautions to protect yourself by wearing insect repellent and getting rid of standing water around your home.”
