Black History Month

It has been more than half a century since the brutal assassination of chairman Fred Hampton, Sr. The Black Panther party leader was killed in a coordinated plot by Chicago police and the FBI.

For eight years now, locals from the Lincoln Square community know when they want good Southern cuisine, they head to a hot spot called Luella’s Southern Kitchen.

In a FOX 32 Special Report, we look at how one historical event spurred another, and it all happened on Chicago’s South Side.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton attended an event in Chicago honoring Black History Month and celebrating Black-owned businesses. 

Mardi Gras is just around the corner, so a lot of Chicagoans will be heading over to Wicker Park to get a taste of New Orleans at a restaurant called Ina Mae Tavern & Packaged Goods.

Bronzeville is known for its landmark buildings and galleries, but there's also a breakfast and lunch spot the locals flock to that has often been voted one of the best in the city.

Their first official duty in their new roles will be to accept the city’s Black History Month proclamation on Tuesday.
