A bill giving private-sector workers more time off is heading to Gov. J.B. Pritzker's desk. 

It is Inauguration Day for the 103rd Illinois General Assembly. 

The passage comes a bit over six months after a gunman in Highland Park killed seven and wounded more than 48 people at a Fourth of July parade.

The Illinois House passed amended House Bill 5471 Tuesday afternoon, which bans assault weapons and high-capacity magazines from being manufactured or sold in the state.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Illinois House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch aren’t happy with proposed changes by the Illinois Senate on a measure that would ban assault weapons, voicing their strong opposition in separate public statements on Sunday.

The plan also includes pay hikes for the lieutenant governor, comptroller, treasurer, attorney general and secretary of state. The governor earns $205,700, although JB Pritzker does not take it.

Opponents of a ban on military-style, assault weapons still hope to block it in the Illinois Senate this weekend.

Gov. Pritzker has touted electric vehicles as a major economic opportunity for Illinois, and last year signed into law new tax credits and other incentives to bring more manufacturing to the state promising “thousands of jobs.”

The Jane Byrne Interchange Project is nearly done after more than a decade of construction.
