Election

Tuesday is primary election day in Illinois, and a big factor in a lot of the races could be the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade.

A big race in suburban Chicago with two Democrats squaring off: Marie Newman and Sean Casten.

Polls show 56-year-old Darren Bailey leading the pack of Republican contenders who want to take on Governor JB Pritzker in the general election this fall ? and Bailey got a big boost over the weekend when former President Donald Trump endorsed him at a rally downstate.

Out in the western suburbs, candidate Richard Irvin cast his ballot at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora.

Gov. Pritzker, who is running against West Side native Beverly Miles, joined his Lieutenant Governor Tuesday, greeting voters all over Chicago.

Illinois Republicans have high hopes this year, even though Democrats hold every statewide office and control the General Assembly with super majorities in each chamber.

It?s a crowded field to replace congressman Bobby Rush in the First Congressional District. The district is predominately African-American, and covers many areas on the South Side and south suburbs.

While the number of ballots cast in Chicago is steadily increasing by the hour, voter turnout was still down this primary.

It?s Primary Election day and Illinois voters get to choose which candidate will represent the party for the general election.

Former Republican Gov. Jim Edgar, who is pro-choice on abortion, noted that a majority of Illinois voters are too. He fears Illinois State Sen. Darren Bailey won't be able to win over many of those voters.
