New app takes the waiting game out of long lines

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - One hot new app is all about the dreaded task of waiting in line.

Depending on what study you read, the average American will spend anywhere from 2 to 5 years of their life, waiting in line.

At some point, we've all been there. Whether it's at a restaurant for a bowl of soup, at the DMV, or outside your favorite night-time hot spot, no one likes to wait in line.

So, one guy out in California has developed an app to solve that problem. It's called Linechecker.

The mobile app crowdsources information from people using the app, along with "street teams" of people, and past data to give you you real time updates how long the line is at the city's most popular bars and clubs.

The app just launched this week and the CEO says the key is getting users involved in the process.

“The more and more people who use it, the more accurate we become. So basically, I realize that we're all standing waiting in line together, so why don't we help each other out,” said Eric Anthony, CEO of Linechecker.

Anthony plans to expand the app to include lines at DMV's, post offices, and anywhere that has a line.

He says it will become a global community of people waiting in line creating a database of waiting lines that's constantly updating in real-time.

In case you're wondering, based on the people using his app here in Chicago, the night club with the longest lines is The Underground Chicago.
