3 charged with Evanston armed robbery

EVANSTON (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Two men and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with robbing a woman at gunpoint Tuesday night in north suburban Evanston.

Trenton Norwood, 19, of the 1200 block of Sherman Avenue in Evanston, and 20-year-old Keith D. Richardson of the 700 block of Dobson Street in Evanston, were each charged Thursday with a felony count of armed robbery, according to a statement from Evanston police. Norwood was also charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon.

A 17-year-old Chicago boy was also charged with attempted armed robbery Wednesday and taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, police said. Police declined to release further details about him because he is a minor.

About 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, someone called 911 to report a possible robbery near the ATM at the Bank of America branch at 1336 Chicago Ave., according to police.

Officers found Richardson and the teen standing near an idling vehicle in the parking lot, and a woman in the ATM vestibule with Norwood, who had a towel covering his face, police said.

When the two suspects standing near the vehicle saw the patrol car, they ran south on Sherman Avenue, according to police.

Norwood and the woman exited the vestibule, and one of the officers saw the man had his hands in his waistband. The officer told him to remove his hands from his waistband, but he refused, police said.

Two officers took Norwood into custody and found a loaded .410 caliber Taurus revolver in his waistband, police said.

The victim, a 41-year-old Evanston woman, said that she was approached by the males, one of whom who pulled out a handgun and demanded she withdraw $200 from the ATM, police said. She was not hurt during the robbery.

Richardson was later found inside the Dempster Street Purple Line station, police said. The 17-year-old was found on the roof of a building in the 1300 block of Sherman Avenue by an Evanston police canine.

The vehicle that was idling in the parking lot had been reported stolen from Chicago, police said.
