Chicago OIG urges reopening of police misconduct investigation

Chicago's Office of Inspector General is calling for the reopening of a closed internal affairs investigation into alleged police misconduct.

Reopening of investigation

What we know:

The case involves an on-duty Chicago police officer accused of wearing a face covering displaying the emblem of the "Three Percenters," an anti-government militia group, during a protest in the summer of 2020.

At the time, a CPD spokesperson stated that officers are prohibited from wearing or displaying political paraphernalia while on duty or in uniform.

Despite this policy, the Bureau of Internal Affairs closed the case without a finding.
