DIY hair treatments for all hair types

Mahisha Dellinger, CEO of "CURLS," joined us LIVE on Good Day Chicago Friday morning to show us some great DIY hair treatments for all hair types!

FINE/THIN HAIR:

To add body to your thin hair, reach for an unlikely beauty beverage: beer! Mix 1/2 cup of flat beer (pour beer into a container and let it sit out for a couple of hours to deplete carbonation) with one tsp of light oil (sunflower or canola) and a raw egg. Apply to clean, damp hair, let sit for fifteen minutes, rinse with cool water.

KINKY HAIR:

Kinky hair is the toughest, but most fragile type of hair and doesn't retain moisture well: For a great moisturizing treatment that can be applied every other week, massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water, followed by cool water, then shampoo.

WAVY HAIR:

Wavy hair truly benefits from moisture: Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and locks in moisture. You can also add one to two tbsp of olive oil to loosen honey for easier application. Massage approximately 1/2 cup of honey into clean, damp hair, let sit for twenty minutes, and rinse with warm water.

CURLY HAIR:

Curly hair tends to get frizzy very quickly! For frizzy hair, mix 1 can of pure coconut milk (rich moisturizer - hydrates, conditions and de-frizzes hair), 1 ripe avocado (natural source of protein to replenish the protein in chemically treated hair), 2 tablespoons of pure honey (conditions and adds sheen) and 2 tablespoons of olive oil (fatty oil that moisturizes and conditions hair. Add ingredients to blender, mix at high speed until it reaches a smoothie-like consistency, may be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Apply generously and evenly to hair, smooth hair into a protective style - and enjoy your day!
