Eisenhower gunfire marks 47th expressway shooting this year

Some drivers are avoiding the Eisenhower Expressway after nearly a dozen shootings have taken place on it this year.

A report of shots fired on the inbound I-290 today came in at 10:30 a.m. Monday between Kedzie and Sacramento avenues.

Police ended up closing all of the eastbound lanes of the expressway between Independence and Sacramento for almost three hours, as they interviewed witnesses and recovered shell casings.

According to police, shots were exchanged between a white and black vehicle.

The white car was involved in a minor crash before taking the exit ramp at Sacramento while the black car continued on I-290 toward the city.

There were no reports of any injuries. Police canvassed nearby hospitals on the chance that someone involved in the shootings sought medical help.

This was the 47th shooting on the area expressways this year, some drivers though, they're not afraid.

"It's getting to the point where I don't even want to live here anymore, I'm thinking about leaving," one commuter said.

The number of expressway shootings has been steadily rising, five times as many as there were just four years ago.
