Illinois sees 862 more virus cases and 10 more deaths

Health officials in Illinois announced on Saturday that the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases has climbed by 862 and that the virus had killed 10 more people.

The latest Illinois Department of Public Health figures bring the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 146,612 and the death toll to 7,014.

The newly reported deaths in Cook County range in age from a man in his 40s to two people in their 80s, IDPH said.

Saturday’s totals are in line with what the state has been seeing recently and the totals are far lower than states such as Florida and Texas where the cases are surging well into the thousands every day.

On Friday, for example, the health department reported 868 new cases and 18 additional confirmed deaths. The last time the single day total for coronavirus cases exceeded 1,000 in Illinois was on June 5.
