Juveniles charged after Englewood crash that killed 1, injured 12
CHICAGO (STMW) - Three teenage boys have been charged with being in the stolen vehicle that led Chicago Police on an Englewood neighborhood chase that ended in a crash killing a woman and injuring 12 others Saturday evening on the South Side.
The vehicle sped away from police about 5:45 p.m., ran a stop sign and then struck the van that was carrying eight people near 71st Street and Carpenter Avenue, police said.
Maria Carrion-Adame, a 37-year-old woman who lived near the crash site, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died at 6:20 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Twelve other people were taken to hospitals as well, with the injured ranging in age from 3 to 56, according to the Chicago Fire Department, which dispatched 11 ambulances and more than 50 personnel to the scene. Five people were listed in serious-to-critical condition, four fair-to-serious and four others were in good condition.
Police said an investigation revealed the vehicle that fled from police was reported stolen. Three boys under 18 were arrested and charged as juveniles with possession of a stolen vehicle, police said. They were scheduled to appear in juvenile court later this month.
