New exhibit at suburban museum helps kids understand their roles in a community
GLENVIEW, Ill. - A new exhibit is now open at Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview.
The backstory:
"Together We Grow!" is designed to help children understand the role they play in the larger community.
"The Fishing Wishing Well is by far one of the most favorite components. [Kids] immediately gravitate towards it," said Vito Gioia, Director of Visitor Experience.
At the Fishing Wishing Well, children can drop their magnetic fishing pole in the well and reel in a fish.
"They get to concentrate on getting their fish, finding their favorite colors. They work together. And the fishing component of it really is kind of a community activity," Gioia said. "And the fish have various prompts like, 'What could you wish for to make the world a better place?’"
Another feature is Rainbow Weaving.
This component helps children use their fine motor skills by weaving clothing onto an image of a child.
"We also have this collaboration of weaving all the children together to help create community," said Gioia.
Other features at the museum include a child-sized tabletop town and a wind tunnel.
What's next:
"Together We Grow" will remain at the museum until April 1.
