CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - Chicago Police are still looking for whomever shot and killed an elderly man as he walked home from the store with his son.

Gene Gordon, 78, was shot and killed Thursday evening a few blocks from his West Englewood home. Police said a cream colored sedan pulled up at 68th and Hermitage and someone inside opened fire. Gordon was shot in the head. Police believe the shooter was targeting someone else. The shooting occurred right across the street from the playground of the Miles Davis Magnet Academy.

"When you got all these people running around here that's taking drugs and everything else, its bound to happen I guess," said Richard Dunn. "He was a very great guy. I mean, you couldn't find a better neighbor."

Neighbors said they saw Gordon walking the neighborhood every day. When they first heard the gunshots, they thought it might be fireworks.

"It's starting to be as if Chicago is one big cemetery. I drove down the street and took somebody somewhere the other day, and as I drove I was saying, 'I did something over there,' 'I did a vigil over there,' or 'I did a vigil over there,' and it was just nonstop," said community activist Donovan Price.

One of Gene Gordon's relatives told us he had four children, along with grandchildren and great grand children.
