Police: Teen killed, 10 wounded in Wednesday shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) - A 17-year-old boy was killed and ten other people — including a 7-year-old boy — were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday, according to Chicago Police.
The fatal shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
The teen was walking in the 500 block of East Marquette Road when two people walked up from behind him and started shooting, police said.
He was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the fatality.
The 7-year-old was wounded in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side about 10 p.m.
He was sitting in the back seat of his mother’s vehiclein the 1000 block of North Leamington when he was shot in the back, police said.
His mother drove him to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park before he was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital, police said. He was listed in serious condition.
The latest shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. in the Washington Heights neighborhood, according to police. A 23-year-old man was shot in the foot in the 10600 block of South Martin Street and taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition.
Half an hour earlier, a 37-year-old man was shot and critically injured during a home invasion in Little Village on the Southwest Side. He was shot in the face and abdomen and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Another man was pistol-whipped in the home invasion, which a police source said was thought to be drug-related.
Another 23-year-old man was wounded in a Roseland neighborhood attack about 9:45 p.m. He was on the front porch of a home in the 200 block of West 112th Street when someone opened fire from a white SUV, striking him in the left leg and back, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
Two hours before that. , a 15-year-old boy was shot twice in the right leg in Auburn Gresham. He was walking in the 7500 block of South Emerald about 7:50 p.m. when two people walked out of a gangway and one of them opened fire. The boy was taken to a hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Earlier Wednesday evening, two 26-year-old men were wounded within minutes of each other in South Shore.
About 6:30 p.m., one man was shot in the hand in the 7900 block of South Euclid. He took himself to South Shore Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
At 6:25 p.m., another was shot in the back, leg and buttocks in an apparent domestic fight in the 7300 block of South Chappel, police said. The man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital before being transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. Police said a possible suspect was taken into custody.
Wednesday afternoon, a 33-year-old man was injured in another Austin shooting. He was in a vehicle in the 5000 block of West Huron about 3:30 p.m. when he was shot several times in the leg, police said. He drove himself to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.
Ten minutes earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the South Deering neighborhood. He was walking near an apartment complex about 3:20 p.m. in the 10600 block of South Oglesby Avenue when two people chased him into a home and opened fire, police said. He was shot in the chest and back, and was taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
The day’s first shooting happened just after 1 a.m. in North Lawndale. A 17-year-old boy was walking in the 1300 block of South Lawndale when someone walked up and shot him in the leg, police said. He later walked in to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was treated and released.
