Shelter-in-place lifted after Joliet police arrest man on gun, drug charges

A Joliet man was detained during a search warrant on Thursday in Joliet. Due to an abundance of caution, Joliet police ordered a shelter in place for nearby residents as well as a nearby school.

What we know:

Jesus Zambrano, 35, of Joliet, and two adult women were ordered from a residence in the 1000 block of North Raynor Avenue around 9:00 a.m. Joliet Police Department Special Operations Squad, Crisis Negotiation Team, Tactical Unit, Narcotics Unit, Neighborhood Oriented Policing Team, K9 Unit, Investigations, and Patrol were executing a search warrant of the property.

Following a search, officers recovered multiple loaded firearms, including a 9mm handgun and two .45 caliber handguns, as well as ammunition and suspected cocaine, heroin, and Xanax pills.

Zambrano is currently on pre-trial release for multiple past criminal charges and was wearing an ankle monitoring device.

Zambrano was arrested and charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and criminal violation of pre-trial release.

The women were released at the scene.

Residents in a Joliet neighborhood were urged to shelter in place Thursday morning as police conducted a search warrant operation in the area.

As of around 10:30 a.m., the shelter in place order was lifted.

Residents in the area are instructed to remain indoors until further notice. Nearby schools were also placed on a "secure and teach" out of caution during the search warrant.

What they're saying:

"I find yet another arrest of Jesus Zambrano deeply troubling, not only because of what was recovered following this morning’s search warrant, but because of what this arrest represents. I have learned that Zambrano currently has nine open criminal cases in Will County, many of them involving firearms, and yet he is still walking our streets. I am fed up," Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans said.
