Woman escapes abduction attempt while walking in Aurora

AURORA (STMW) - A woman told police a man tried to abduct her Tuesday afternoon in west suburban Aurora.

The 35-year-old woman was walking near the former Hobby Lobby in the 1900 block of West Galena Boulevard about 3:40 p.m. when she noticed she was being followed by a man driving a silver car, according to Aurora police.

The man began to whistle and call out to her, police said. When she pulled out her cellphone to call for help, he disappeared.

But the woman saw the man again when she reached Greenwood Drive and Best Place about 10 minutes later, police said.

He got out of his car, walked up to her from behind, grabbed her and tried to pull her toward his vehicle. She pushed him away and ran home.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11 with black hair, goatee and mustache, police said. He was wearing a medium-gray shirt.

Police said the woman was unable to provide a more detailed description of the man or his vehicle.
