Young mom of 1-year-old another unintended victim of Chicago gun violence

There’s an outpouring of emotion for the young mother killed in a mass shooting in Chicago.

Nakia Bailey, 21, was one of five people shot in Homan Square Wednesday night.    

Her family and friends are in shock. Bailey is just another innocent victim of indiscriminate gang violence. Her family is praying for that violence to stop.

Balloons were released in the air commemorating a life taken too soon. Bailey -- one of five victims shot in a drive by shooting in Homan Square Wednesday night -- died from her injuries.

On Thursday, dozens of family and friends held a candlelight vigil in honor of the slain mother of a 1-year-old child. Her family is still stunned.

"We're all very sad that this has happened to her and she won't be with us anymore,” said Bailey’s godmother.

Police believe Bailey was not the intended target, but just another victim of gang violence in Chicago.

Nakia's family is praying for that violence to end.

"It's just not fair. It's just not fair. It's a big loss for us and it needs to stop,” Bailey’s godmother said.

"My prayer was for that the streets will cease the violence. Our kids can't even come outside and play no more,” said Bailey’s uncle.

Superintendent Eddie Johnson believes it was kids who pulled the trigger. He says in order for gang violence to stop, there has to be tougher penalties for juveniles.
