Chicago area braces for Winter Weather Advisory; freezing rain, slick roads expected

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect Wednesday night, with freezing rain and drizzle possible until midnight.

The advisory will last from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.

What we know:

The Chicagoland area is expecting cloudy skies and highs in the mid 30s. Winds could gust up to 20 mph at times.

Untreated paved surfaces may become slick into early Thursday morning, with ice accumulation expected to range from a glaze to about one-tenth of an inch.

Looking Ahead:

Tomorrow will start off near freezing, but temperatures will climb into the low 40s by Thursday as the melting continues.

Thursday will kick off cloudy, but expect mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. Winds could gust up to 30 mph tomorrow too.

Friday’s highs will be in the low 30s with some clouds. Saturday brings a chance of snow, with temperatures in the mid 30s, and the snow could continue into Saturday night. Sunday will be partly sunny with highs around 30.

Next week looks partly to mostly sunny, with highs in the low 30s on Monday and dropping to the mid 20s by Tuesday.
