'Dougie' the dog reunited with family after snarling traffic on Skyway
Darting through traffic, a dog goes on a wild run, right down the middle of the Skyway.
That was just part of the dog's wild day, that started with him on the run and ended with a reunion.
Several Chicago people helped get the dog back home to Wisconsin.
Sprinting across the Skyway, a dog named Dougie snarled traffic Wednesday morning. He was running loose near the state line, with a chain trailing behind him and two Skyway workers on his tail.
Eventually the lure of an open car door slowed the pup and brought his run for freedom to an end.
Next, Chicago police officer Paul Woods brought the frightened dog to Chicago Animal Care and Control -- the place for the city's strays.
The mixed breed dog was wearing a tag on his collar, so the staff was able to track him to a vet in Union Grove Wisconsin and then to his family.
His family drove from Wisconsin to pick up Dougie. They say they had been forced to give him away to another family two days ago, in the face of pricey vet bills. The owners say they thought Dougie had gone to a good home and that they have no idea how he ended up on the Skyway.
The staff at Animal Care and Control is now going to work to help the family pay those bills, so Dougie can stay home.
Now he's heading back home to Wisconsin, which his family suspects may have been the motive all along, behind Dougie's daring dash on the Skyway.
