Woman recovering following hit-and-run crash downtown

A 23-year-old woman who was struck by a car awhile crossing lake shore drive near Buckingham Fountain Tuesday is recovering. The driver fled the scene and remains at large.

CHICAGO - Police are searching for a driver responsible for striking a woman on Lake Shore Drive and fleeing the scene Tuesday night.

At about 5:26 p.m., a woman was in the 500 block of North Lake Shore Drive when she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound, police said.

The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene after the crash.

The woman was transported to an area hospital in fair condition.

Major Accidents is investigating.

Chicago police initially said the victim was killed in the crash.
