North Side school evacuated, but no bomb found

A North Side elementary school was evacuated late Wednesday morning, but students were allowed to return a couple of hours later after a bomb threat was determined to be a hoax.

Chicago Police responded to Skinner North Classical School, 640 W. Scott St., about 11:40 a.m.

The school was “safely evacuated following an unsubstantiated bomb threat,” a statement from Chicago Public Schools said.

Students were taken to Jenner Elementary Academy of the Arts, 1119 N. Cleveland Ave., about three blocks away as police investigated the threat.

Police completed a “comprehensive sweep of the building and determined it is safe to occupy,” according to CPS.

Students and staff returned to the building shortly after 1 p.m.

“CPS is thankful for the quick response from law enforcement,” the statement said. “Student safety is our top priority, and we will assist law enforcement as needed with their investigation.”

Officers remained at the school until classes were dismissed as they investigated the validity of the threat, according to police.
