A retired suburban police official is calling on Gov. JB Pritzker to appoint a school safety and training chief.

Illinois State Police said Giosan Garay, 21, was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry that crossed the center line and smashed head-on into a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. His passengers – Juan Bernal, 21, and Jesus Martinez, 24 – were killed.

A 16-year-old boy is being charged as an adult in the shooting of another teenager in suburban Joliet, police said.

"The call actually came in at the parking lot of Jimmy John’s, which is actually kind of crazy because you know Jimmy John’s ‘freaky fast’ and this was a freaky fast birth," said Chief Jon Stratton.

A stolen Jeep was recovered and a man was charged after leading Indiana State Police in a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon in LaPorte County, Indiana.

A new state law is giving public school students five mental health days per academic year. It comes at a good time when being a student during a pandemic has proven stressful.

The school district will make up the missed day on May 27, as part of its five emergency days budgeted into the 2021-22 school year.

Peter Steinys went to the Joliet Police Department and told officers that he pushed an employee who was dressed as Santa because the employee bumped into him with his Santa belly.

A boil order that was in place for four days in Plainfield has been lifted.

Tests found E. coli in Plainfield's water supply, and until new tests prove that the water is safe, students at 16 buildings will be attending class remotely on Monday.
