Chicago is facing another dangerously hot day, with temperatures and humidity combining to create a heat index that could reach as high as 115 degrees.

Millions of people from portions of the Midwest through the Great Lakes region, including those in places such as Chicago, Detroit and Milwaukee, are keeping their eyes to the sky and bracing for severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail Tuesday.

Chicagoans are bracing for another day of dangerous heat as temperatures continue to soar. 

Some schools in the Chicago area will have early dismissal on Tuesday as the extreme heat continues. 

Despite the heat, many Chicagoans were still out and about.

As Chicago Public Schools (CPS) welcomed students back to classrooms on Monday, the district took proactive measures to ensure the safety and comfort of students and staff during the anticipated heatwave.

Cooling centers opened up over the weekend as Chicago prepares for record-breaking heat.

Lightning is no stranger to Florida. Earlier this week, a Florida homeowner's security camera appeared to capture a powerful lightning strike, causing a loud boom, and apparently sending dirt flying into the air.
